Jake Keaton Racing returned to Ona Speedway this week after there was a problem getting Jakes Late Model Stock Car ready for Motor Mile Speedway. Jake and Jason quickly got the 14 Late Model and 71 Classic ready for Ona. Some suspension adjustments were made to Jakes Late Model and he looked forward to a good car once again. There was a good size field of 11 Late Models for Ona. Jake ran well in practice and the car looked great except he had trouble driving into the corner. Some out of town racers had come to Ona and the track promoter was letting them run a different tire than the local guys and it showed as they were nearly a second faster than anyone so it looked as though Jake would be racing for 3rd tonight. Some adjustments were made and Jake then went out for his Heat race. He started on the pole and stayed out front the entire race but still had trouble driving into the turns. He went on to win the heat race which placed him 4th in the feature lineup? Jake quickly jumped up into 2nd as the guys with faster tires starting in the middle of the field. Patiently Jake gave them room and worked for 3rd the entire race. He was much faster than the 3rd place car but just could not drive in hard enough to make the pass work on the outside. Midway through the race Jake went into turn 3 and slid high. The front brakes were losing grip and the when Jake drove into turn 1 the next lap the front brakes lost all power and only the rear worked. This spun Jake sideways and backed him into the turn 1 wall at full speed. It was a dissapointing end but Jake was happy to have such a fast car still with his brake problems. We are excited to see what he can do with the brakes repaired.
Jason qualified 1st with a time of 19.6 for the evening. They inverted the top 5 placing Jason 5th for the feature. He quickly made his way into 2nd and then slid into the lead after only a few laps. Jasons radio went out and he drove blind for the majority of the race. He was fast and pulled away by about a straightaway but he was not as fast as he was last week when he was turning 19.4's in the late race. Jason went on to win his 5th race of the season in 6 starts.
