Jakes first NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series race is the Spring Fling 150 Season Opener at South Boston. Jake went down with a goal of finishing his first race of his career that was longer than 30 laps. The weekend began and the weather looked bad from the get go. Unfortunately they had to reschedule the race from Saturday to Sunday. The weather Sunday was chilly but with clear skies it looked to be a great day of racing. The team arrived early to try and get acquainted with the race procedure but it was too much for the small crew and left Jake with only half the practice time that was available. Some miscommunications in the pits led to some major problems with the chassis that Jake would fight all day. Qualifying began and Jake found the car with an extreme push that landed him 21st in qualifying with a time of 16.8. After qualifying the cars are impounded by Nascar so the team was unable to make the proper adjustments to help Jake's Sherwin Williams Monte Carlo drive better for the race.
Jake started the 150 lap race and took it easy the first part of the race as he tried to save his tires as much as possible. The push in the car was to bad though as he fought to stay in the groove on the bottom of the track. Jake fought to stay on the lead lap about 70 laps into the event but eventually let the lead cars have there ground and moved over. Jake spent the entire race just being patient and trying to bring the car home in one piece. Caution flags began to fly near the end of the race extending the event to 162 laps. Jake was able to fend off Jonathon Bailey and hold onto the 14th position and successfully finish his first Dodge Weekly Series race.
Jake will be heading to Motor Mile Speedway this weekend to practice in preparation for the season opener their on April 8th.
