Opening day at Ona Speedway 2005. After two weeks of rain delayed events we were all pumped to just get out and race. Weeks of preparation went into the cars for this day and most was well. During practice on Thursday though Jake's car had a sort of flutter to it when he would get on the gas coming out of the turns. Some work was done to repair the problems and Jake was hopeful that it would be gone. Unfortunately the problem still exists and Jake had no choice but to race with it or go home. He chose to race.
Due to the low car count in both Jake and Jason's classes management decided to run two short sprint races for each division. These sprints would only be 6 laps a piece. Jake was first up starting 2nd by drawing. He ran well to have as bad of motor problems as he had but still fell to 3rd for the end of the race. Much work went on to attempt to help Jake's car for the 2nd race. Meanwhile Jason was racing in his first classic race in the newer car. Jason started 3rd and ran in 2nd the entire race. He was faster but due to lack of experience overdrove the car and was unable to overtake 1st.
Jake's 2nd race started out much better with Jake jumping out to an early lead. He sustained it for a few laps until he got into some oil dry from a previous race which caused him to slip up and fall to 2nd. He still was a threat though hanging right there in a close 2nd. Much work needed to be done to the engine to get it up to 100%. For Jason's 2nd race he started in 3rd again and snuck into 1st when the top 2 spots got together in the 1st turn. The restart placed Jason on the pole. He checked out and finished nearly half a lap ahead in the 8 lap race.
Next race is May 21st where hopefully hopefully we can bring home two trophies for the team.
