It was a wild and crazy night for Jake Keaton Racing Saturday at Ona Raceway. The day started off looking quite grim with rain clouds hovering above us all day and actually letting go as we got to the track to unload. It was just a brief shower though and things dried up as we learned that the race would go on. Practice commenced and We all went out to see what we had for the night.
Jake went out and found that his car was still not up to where it needed to be and could be. Another engine change this week led to a lot of unknowns going into Saturdays race. Jake was fast but was not the fastest so later he contested that some chassis adjustments and a gear change were the way to go. For the feature event Jake started second and quickly he and the leader Robbie Watson pulled away from the rest of the pack. From the start on out the pressure was on as Jake was all over Robbie the entire race but just didn't have the motor to contend with him down the straights. When a caution came out with 4 laps to go Jake knew he had to try and get him on the restart so he drove it down into turn 1 a little too hard andgot into the back of Robbie. This spun Robbie but something broke on Jakes car sending him straight into the turn 1 wall. Jake slowly arose from his battered 14 machine to survey the damage. The entire right front suspension had been ripped off and the tire with suspension was stuck in the guardrail. It took a while for track crews to get Jakes car off the track and Jake came back to the pits to rest. He found himself to be hurting more and more and eventually decided that it would be best if he went and had some X-rays just to make sure nothing was cracked. The doctor gave him an arm sling, neck brace, and told him no racing this weekend. But Jake will be their as usual. We do have a lot of work to do all of the week though.
