Hot and humid could easily describe Saturday at Ona Raceway with temperatures in the 90's the track was slick. The threat of rain though hung in the air all day while everyone hoped that we could get the show in. All of the Jake Keaton Racing drivers were fairly happy with their cars on Thursdays practice session and hoped they handled just as well tonight.
Jake's day got started with the first practice session where the car looked good and Jake was extremely happy to actually have a loose car for once instead of the continuous push he has had the last few weeks of racing. Although the car was a little loose coming off the corners he was fairly happy and changes were made for the second practice session. The second practice went well also with Jake running the same lap times but the car felt more stable to him especially coming off. Jake found the car to feel a little tight though which needed to be addressed since the track would tighten up more as the sun set. Jake drew 2nd for the start but they decided to send the polesitter to the tale so Jake got the pole. The green flag flew and Jake charged out to a significant lead after a few laps. He had a bout 10 car lengths on 2nd place when Gary Chapman ran into 2nd. After some laps Jake got extremely loose out of 2 and nearly lost it. Gary caught Jake and passed him and just ran away after that. Jake had 2nd in the bag though with nearly half a lap on 3rd place. Jake continued until a caution came out and they called the race early due to rain on the way.
Kris looked really good during his first practice session and was able to keep up with some of the fast runners. He did spin out once in turn 4 but no damage was done and he continued on. Some adjustments were made for the second practice session and he went on out and ran just as good only more stable. For the feature event he started in the 5th position right behind teammate Dustin Beckleheimer. Coming out of turn 2 on the first lap some cars got together in front of Kris but he kept it low and drove through the mayhem to move up to 4th spot. Kris ran in 4th for a few laps until to cars that tangled caught him and passed him. He hung onto the tail of the lead pack the entire race. When a caution with 3 laps to go came out Kris found himself in 4th and going for 3rd when the green flew again. He drove it into turn 3 on the last lap and got into the back of the 3rd place runner spinning himself and 3rd place out. It was now a race to see who could get there cars started and turned around to get back to the finish line. Kris barely missed getting 3rd by about 2ft.
Dustin had a wild night. During practice he was fast but loose by the looks of it and smacked the wall once coming out of turn 2. Luckily not much damage was done and he was able to race. Dustin started 3rd for the feature race and quickly picked his way into 2nd and was all over the leader for many laps. Then he slipped his way into 1st and ran there for numerous laps. Bailey made his was into 2nd and was on Dustins tail challenging him for the lead but Dustin was doing a spectacular job hanging onto the lead. Then Dustin was spun out by Bailey and fell back to the rear. Dustin was obviously upset and was ready to go when the green flag dropped and when it did he did. He charged into 3rd by turn 1 but was once again spun out. This time it caused a flat tire and Dustin was unable to continue. This didn't stop him from showing his anger though when he stopped on the track and waited for the "spinner" to come around. Dustin let him know it wasn't appreciated and pulled off the track to wind up with a 5th place finish.
