It was a beautiful day for racing at Ona again this week and everyone was excited to get the Late Models back racing again. A lot of work went into the cars the past week and everyone was loking forward to some good stable runs. Jake would be racing twice tonight as the late models had a twin event tonight both only 15 lap sprints.
Practice commenced as soon as we got at the track. Jakes first practice went terrible. the car was terribly tight coming out of the corners and Jake just couldnt get on the throttle until he was
Jake drew the pole and started first for the first race. Alan Rohrig started on the outside front row and got past Jake on the start dropping Jake to second where he fought a tight car the entire race. Jake hung onto 2nd until the end where he came in hoping to get the push out and give Alan a run for the win. The field was inverted for the 2nd race which put Jake in the 3rd position. The leader did not get a good start and Jake fell to 4th but quickly moved into 3rd right behind Alan. After a few laps of waiting for an opening Jake and Alan both passed the leader on the outside. Jake ran in 2nd for a few more laps until all of the sudden he spun in turn 4 but got it going quickly holding onto 3rd position. There was no damage from the spin but with only 2 laps to go Jakes hopes were in a bind. Jake restarted in 3rd and blew by the 2nd place car on the outside on the start becuase they just didn't go. Jake drove it hard into turn 1 and got right up onto the back bumper of Alan. Down the backstretch they were nose to tail going into turn 3. Jake gave a Alan a bump in the middle of the turn but Alan didn't budge. Jake tried desperately the last lap to make an attempt for the lead but it was too late and Jake came home in 2nd. After the race though Jake was deemed disqualified for passing before the green flag but later review of the tape by the track owner showed that Jake went when the leader did and the green flag was out so he reclaimed his 2nd place finish.
Kris Adkins started practice off with a bang when he spun twice in the first session. The laps that he did hold onto the loose car were extremely fast though. After some adjustments to make him a bit more stable Kris went back out and was happy with his car. For the feature Kris drew 4th place. At the start of the race there was a near accident in turn 1 that involved a few cars in front of Kris getting sideways so Kris wisely backed off and slowed down but a wreck never occured which left Kris running in 5th a ways behind 4th place. The car looked pretty good and Kris was actually gaining repidly on 3rd and 4th. By the time he caught them the race was almost over which didnt leave him much time . He tried to pass but just couldnt do it and wound up in 4th after once car dropped out. The car looked great though and we all are looking forward to next weekend.
Dustin started 3rd and quickly moved into the 2nd place. He spent the entire race trying to run down 1st place while holding a hard charging 3rd place runner. At the end he still found himself in the same spot holding off 3rd and wound up 2nd.
